Cathy Shelburne

Mrs. Cathy Shelburne received her Early Childhood education degree from the University of South Alabama and taught Kindergarten for 25 years at Mobile Christian School. She was awarded “Teacher of the Year” twice during her time at MCS. She has served as a presenter for hands-on learning in math and language arts practices for young learners.

She has served as our art teacher at Bright Academy for the past 9 years. Mrs. Cathy believes that all children have artistic ability and is passionate about helping students express themselves creatively through their art. She continues to take courses to help her grow as an art teacher throughout her time at Bright Academy.

Mrs. Cathy attends Creekwood Church of Christ where she continues her leadership role in teaching a ladies Bible class, a Bible study in her home, along with teaching children of all ages and serving as the VBS director for 12 years. Aside from teaching, she enjoys mentoring other women and young girls in their walk of life and faith in God.

This year, Mrs. Cathy returns as the art teacher at Bright Academy. She also conducts a weekly Art Club group once a week. Mrs. Cathy takes many of our students’ artwork to high level competitions where they have won numerous awards. She strongly believes that the art program benefits the curriculum by making it richer in the minds of children.
