Cathy Shelburne
Mrs. Cathy Shelburne – Art Instructor
Mrs. Cathy Shelburne earned her degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of South Alabama and dedicated 25 years to teaching Kindergarten at Mobile Christian School, where she was honored as Teacher of the Year twice. She has also served as a presenter for hands-on learning strategies in math and language arts for young learners.
Mrs. Cathy has been the beloved Art Teacher at Bright Academy almost since the opening of the school and shares her passion for creativity and encourages every child to explore their unique artistic voice. She firmly believes that all children possess artistic ability and uses her classroom as a space to foster self-expression and confidence. She also leads a weekly Art Club, offering additional opportunities for students to develop their talents.
Mrs. Cathy proudly takes student artwork to regional and national competitions, where Bright Academy students have received numerous accolades. She is committed to professional growth and regularly attends courses to enhance her teaching methods and keep her instruction vibrant and engaging. She believes that art deeply enriches the academic curriculum, helping students connect with learning in meaningful and lasting ways.
Outside of the classroom, Mrs. Cathy is a dedicated member of Creekwood Church of Christ, where she teaches a ladies Bible class, hosts a Bible study in her home, leads children’s classes, and serves as the Vacation Bible School Director. She is passionate about mentoring women and young girls, guiding them in their walk of life and faith in God.
